Hi everyone.  I hope someone can answer me this question.  If I have a leased car in Canada and move to the U.S. under the K1 Visa, will I have to pay taxes at all for the upcoming year of 2019.  I will be leaving Canada on Oct 15.  I cannot find anyone to take over the lease.  I know I can have my Manitoba drivers license for a year while in NJ.  Obviously I will cancel my car insurance so I’ll just be paying monthly for my lease.

 

Will this affect my taxes for 2019 year?  I hope I make sense.

You wont be able to register or insure the car in the USA.  I would double check your lease to see if you can even bring the car to the USA as you will no longer be a resident of Canada.

 

Taxation wise you can ask on the serbinski forums.

You won’t be able to import your car in the US except for if it’s finance..
