Hi my Pinoy friends, I was approved for GC last week, however the officer during the interview told me that I could not just turn my old last name to middle name so she updated my middle name to the one on my birth certificate instead of my old last name, even though I showed her the updated ssc, id and passport, she still insisted on changing it. Now I am stuck with a GC that has a different middle name than my passport, what should I do next?

Gee I HATE that. There is always one Government Employee who takes it upon themselves to be GOD and change what is working. I wish they keep there cotton pick'n hands off of peoples rights. Sorry to rant.

I am not sure how to go about changing it, so I am going to butt out and let someone who is more experienced then I. Keep us posted in this thread as I would like to hear how your resolve this.

Carry your marriage certificate when internationally traveling.

Actually the government employee is correct ... most of the time, sort of.

Most states only allow a person to change their last name by married.  There are a couple states that allow changing the middle name but only a couple.

The only way to officially change the middle name is by a court process of name change ... OR .... during Naturalization - which at that time a person could change their WHOLE name if they desired.
