Hi All,

My F2A petition for my wife was approved and it's on it's way to NVC, I have two babies (twins) that were born after the petition was submitted.  I'm confused as to when should I request the NVC to add the babies to the case.

I was reading this step: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/interview/applicant-interview.html

"Can my children also receive immigrant visas, even if they were not originally part of the case? - If the immigrant visa category in which you are applying includes derivative children, your qualified unmarried children under the age of 21 may be added as derivative applicants after your interview has been scheduled. Contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate for specific instructions. At the interview, the additional applicant(s) will be required to pay the same fees and submit the same forms and supporting documents as you."

  • Does that mean that I should submit their inclusion after my wife has her interview letter in hand?
  • When do I pay the fees for the babies? they make it sound like if pay and fill the DS260 at the embassy which sounds strange.

Is somebody has any experience with adding derivative children please help and share your experience?

Thanks!!

How do I add a derivative family member to my case?

On the case summary page’s status chart, there are two buttons under “Applicant Information.” To add or remove a family member from your case, click on the appropriate button. You will have to enter information about your family member, including name, address, email, and relationship to you. The new derivative visa applicant’ name will then appear on the list of applicants and you will have to pay the Immigrant Visa Fee, complete a Form DS-260 application, and upload civil documents for that person. However, it will take approximately one hour after adding a family member before the option to pay the Immigrant Visa Application Fee is active.

Note that some visa categories are only for unmarried persons, and a change in marital status could make you ineligible for that visa category. Typically eligibility for a visa category depends on the legal status of the petitioning family member in the United States, your age, and your marital status. You can find a list of immigrant visa categories on our website with details on the eligibility requirements for each type of immigrant visa.
