Guys..  Any help would be appreciated..

My window just opened to apply for citizenship and while answering the questions in the online form, I just discovered that I never register to the selective service :( I am 27 now and can't enroll anymore.

I got my green card 7 months before turning 26 yo and my lawyers never mentioned anything about this >:c. They were expensive and useless

Forum what I read,  I won't be able to apply for citizenship until 29 or 31yo..

Anyone had to go through this?

The whole  point of doing the citizenship was to accelerate this long waiting times :/

I would recommend that you get an attorney to consult with before applying. Typically you still have a chance at citizenship if you can prove that you did not willfully or knowingly avoid registering for SS. There is certainly no guarantee, but I know that people have still be able to get accepted. I do know that sometimes they suggest that you wait until you're 31 to apply for naturalization if you never signed up for SS.

You can't enroll but you can still apply, you will receive an official response stating that you are not required to register since you are older than 26.  That will help in the future to prove that you at least took the initiative.

Hi there,

Thanks for the advice!
I called the selective service and they have me on their database! Yay!

I didn't show in their website verify now tool thing but they do have me.. So that is good news

It ended up being that when I applied for residency there was a line that said
(you authorize your information to be released by the USCIS to enroll you automatically in the selective service).. Or something like that :)

So..  I am all set!

Good day!

Hmm, I don't know how you got your green card.. but mine was through Consular Processing in the family sponsored category and during the interview at the Consulate in my home country.. I was clearly given notice by the interviewing consular officer to register for selective service within few days of landing in US otherwise there could be a fine of $250,000 or jail time.. Were you not given any notice?
