My wife is a US Citizen and wants to bring her Mother to the US. Her mother doesn't have access to a computer and is older (70 years old) and doesn't know know how to use a computer. So I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with the form DS-260, the online application to get a visa to move here. The form says her mom has to fill it out but it's not gonna be possible. Is there anyway my wife can fill out the form for her??? ( the legal way ?) Thanks for any information . James

Yes. Anyone can fill DS-261 and DS-260 form. In the question "Did anyone assist you in filling out this application", your wife should provide her information to let NVC knows that your wife filled this form for her mother. In case there are any mistakes, her mother can explain it easily in the interview.

Please note that after submiting this form, you cannot edit it. Thus your wife should check the information correctly before submitting.

In case she found any mistakes after submitting, she should note the correction in the paper, and her mother will bring it to the interview. The Consular officer is willing to help her mother to correct DS-260, so do not worry.

Triple28,

Thank you for the information, but the problem is at the end of the form  it says the applicant (her mother) must electronically sign the form. So her mom is in another country and doesn't have access to a computer. So we are confused if we electronically sign the form if it is legal. James

Yes your wife can sign it for her mother. It is no problem at all. Because it requires your mom's passport number and NVC case number to sign the form, so anyone can do that.

It is just a legal action to prove that the preparer (your wife) and the applicant (her mother) have read and agreed the content of form, so they cannot tell the Consular Officer that they did not fill the form if the Consular found out any mistakes there.

Your wife should finish this form soon as well as submitting the documents to NVC so her mother's case will be completed soon. The Officer Consular only care about the content of the form as well as documents so do not worry so much.
