DCF in Germany - how long is the I-130 valid?

Hello all!

My husband (US citizen) and I (French citizen) (we have both been living in Germany for 5 years) are just starting our visa journey. We are considering moving to the US sometime within the next 2 years (probably late 2019 / early 2020).

I have taken note of the process for filing for I-130 directly in Frankfurt and it seems all clear to me. However I am bit struggling with the timeline we should follow considering our plans - especially since the IR1 is only valid for 6 months.

What I am wondering is: how long is the I-130 valid? Does it make sense to file now if we don't plan on moving to the States for another 18 months?

I'd be super grateful for any tips!

Considering g the timeline for DCF, dont file now.  Take it into consideration and file about 6 months from when you want to move.  I do not believe DCF is something you can slow down like the regular CR1/IR1 process.

(FWIW an approved I-130 does not expire but I do not know how long an embassy would keep an approved I-130 on file with them. )
