I applied N600 for my son last July 2016 and received a NOA Aug 2016. that was the first and last letter I received from them until I decided to write them a letter this February 2018 after numerous times of calling them and doing online inquiry. Finally, they updated the case status online to scheduled ceremony. The problem was I didn't receive the letter. Thus, I called USCIS and thankfully, talked to an officer. That's when I found out that they sent the letter to Oak Harbor WA. it was the wrong address since we are staying overseas here in Japan since my husband is member of the military. The officer then told me to change my address. I did the AR-11 online but just put our old address here also in Japan just another base. and put our current address as my new address. The oath ceremony will be held in Oak Harbor this coming April 18. We cannot go to Oak Harbor for the ceremony especially I didn't recieve the letter they mailed. I'm still waiting for their reply but still worried that they might say we neglected the oath taking. even if I already sent them another mail 2 weeks ago explaining that we never moved and still use the same mailing address they used in sending the I-797C. up till now, I never heard anything from them.  thank you for your help

April 18th has already passed, so yes it will be presumed by USCIS that your son neglected to appear.

You are in Japan now, correct?  At this point a call/visit to the nearest US embassy might be in order to see if they can assist you in any way.

Since he didn't show up  for the oath, right now it's paramount that you find out what exactly the status of his application is currently.  Only other suggestion I have is to contact USCIS and speak to an L2 officer again now that the oath date has passed.

I called last night and still, a wrong address that was never our address is still on their file. I sent the letters 30 days ago about the address issue. The officer said that I should wait 60 days for re scheduling of the ceremony and they will send it to the address on file. I told him that, surely I will not receive it since it’s a wrong address. And he insisted that the address is already updated. He asked my current mailing address and he again said that it’s not on their file. Hah! I gave up. We’re going on circles.

I just want to know;

1. Is there a big chance that they will correct the address on their file since I already sent them 2 mails? And how long will it take them to do that?

2. Given the address is corrected, how long should I wait for the rescheduled oath ceremony notice.

This is so stressful! Almost 2 years just for a certificate of citizenship

please help!!!

As the officer told you, it would  take up to 60 days for the oath to be rescheduled.

It is good that you phoned to confirm the correct address with them, and to ensure the application was not perceived as abandoned.

I know it's more stressful on top of the already stressful journey of immigration to begin with...I hope you receive the rescheduled oath ceremony soon!

I wonder if this all started because of the way the original AR-11 was filled out....

Unless I'm mistaken, you said you didn't put the original address used on the application (the US address before moving to Japan temporarily), but instead used the address of an old Japan base---an address USCIS was not aware of?----as your former address.

I'm wondering if, because of not mentioning the initial US address as noted on the initial application is what may have contributed to some of the confusion as they would not have been able to match the original application with the true original address when updating the changes...

Sorry for the confusion. When I called USCIS to report that I did not receive the oath ceremony notice, that’s when I was informed that they have a wrong address on file. (An address that I was not familiar of) The entire application process, we never moved nor changed address. I explained that to the officer. He then said to file an AR-11 online. Since the form was asking for an old address, I just put in our old mailing address (still in Japan, just a different base). Then, I put the same address that I used during filing as our new address. Technically, there’s nothing to update/change of address since we never moved but since they have wrong address on file I wanted to update/ correct that by filing the AR-11 per my conversation with the officer.

Thinking that after 30 days, it was already corrected I called again just to be informed that they still have the wrong address on file.

I don’t know what to do anymore. How come they have an address that is not our address since we are overseas the whole time? And that after numerous call and mails, it still not corrected even if I already talked to an officer.

One officer even said that she will give my email to another officer and that they will contact me directly via email. Up to this day, no email nor updates yet.

I really hope they find time to put in our correct address so the jurisdiction of our case will be changed to our nearest USCIS which is Korea. They come on base for oath taking ceremony. I already emailed them btw and told me to contact USCIS military since they can’t help me yet without having jurisdiction over our case yet.

Will I receive a letter about the change of address?

How long will it take for the system to update an address? Case status online says the address was upated last April 4. But when I called USCIS April 30, they still have the wrong address on file. I’m confused :(

thank you!
