Anyone recently shipped boxes from the UK to the USA and filled out this form? What service did you use? I was looking at UPS. I've heard that I will need extra forms for electronic items? How much detail do I need to provide when filling out the 3299 form, does it need to be item by item or can i group things together like cosmetics, books, linen etc?

Thanks!

What a headache this form was for me! I shipped 35 crates here by sea and although I completed this form as I packed it "got lost" (I actually don't believe it but what can I do...) result was that the crates were held up in customs at port of Seattle and I had to go there and complete another form and they wanted a detailed list of everything in the 35 crates. Had I kept a copy?  No! I explained the situation and they allowed me to write "30 crates used books, 1 crate kitchen utensils, 1 crate used summer clothing..." etc.

Timeline in brief:

So when you did the original form did you put a complete itemised list in there or just group stuff together? Also was it one form per box/crate, or just one in total?

I am dreading filling it out :(

1 form in total as all the crates went on one palette.

Yes, on the original I listed the contents like this:

Crate 1:

- two summer dresses

- 3 pairs of summer trousers

- 2 pairs of summer shoes

etc

Mine was a combination of detailed/not. Eg. Box 1: 91 books. Box 4: 105 books, t-shirt. Box 7: Clothes, bags, towels.  Box 6:

9 plates, 6 bowls, 5 glasses, beaker, 4 tupperware containers, 18 mugs, 2 drink coasters, teaspoon, cutlery set (4 knives, 4 forks, 8 spoons), vegetable peeler, paring knife, vegetable knife, serving spoon, 2 cheese slicers, chopstcks, 7 pegs, bin bags, tin opener, corkscrew, cheese grater, 3 wooden spoon/spatulas, 2 dishcloths, oven gloves, 6 tea towels, salad spoon & fork.

(I was detailed on the kitchen one because there were knives, you know?

One form for the complete shipment.

I don't know about electronics: I had a couple of small radios which I listed.

Thank you! I was thinking that for certain things I would need to be more specific. I was dreading if I had to be like Digital Radio and then list the Make and Model. But I'm happy to be like 1 Digital Radio etc. :)
