Hello all,

I have two questions, and I can't find good answers anywhere. "Instructions" aren't being helpful. I may be thinking too much though... I hope there are someone who can give me an input.

1) The A-number, would one individual have only one A-number regardless of how many "types" of non-immigrant visas s/he has been issued, or is it visa specific? I am on H-1B, and on the approval notice, there is an A-number. I am going to file family-based AOS, and there is a place where I put the A-number, but I wasn't sure if the A-number on the H1B is what I put here, because H1B and family AOS aren't the same... I guess I am not sure if the A-number is individual specific or visa specific.

2) On I-485, Part 8, Q1 is asking whether I have been a part of "any" association or organization. Is this asking really "any" organization? I am a member of local teacher's association, and Japan-America society, but why would being a part of such organizations matter? Would answering "yes" lead them to question my eligibility? I guess I am not sure what exactly they are looking for here.

I hope to receive an advice from someone. Thanks in advance!

1) A-number is an alien registration number, you should the same number from previous applications, it helps identify who you are.

2) Yes, that applies to any organization as stated by the question. As you mentioned, if you have part of any organization or association you should answer yes and explain, otherwise if you answer no you would be lying, you want to be as truthful to all the questions in the form.

Thank you so much for the reply.

I know that they said "any organization" but just wondered why they would even ask whether I have been a member of, for instance, a local chorus group or professional academic organization. The reason why I wondered is because it seems like they are trying to see if the applicant is affiliated with any criminal organization, so I thought they are asking whether the applicant is affiliated with potentially dangerous organization.
