I-751 Mailing address: home or office address

Dear All,

 

Has anyone used their office/work address as their 'mailing address' on the I-751 form instead of their home address? I am planning to move to a pet-friendly apartment in August 2018 (When my lease begins) and my 2-year GC expires on August 9. It would give me peace of mind to apply after May 9, when I am eligible for submitting the I-751 but would like to avoid sending a 'change of address' form to the USCIS. This is because they might lose track and send documents to my previous home address. 

 

So, has anyone used their work address as the mailing address and physical address? If so, were there any issues?

N400 Timeline

  • 09/23/2019: Applied and paid online. Received a receipt number immediately.
  • 09/24/2019: USCIS online estimate is April 2020 
  • 09/28/2019: NOA1 received in my mailbox
  • 09/28/2019: Biometrics appointment scheduled [waiting for notice]
  • 10/04/2019: Biometrics appointment notice received in mailbox 
  • 10/17/2019: Biometrics appointment in Revere, MA completed
  • 10/17/2019: USCIS status changed to "we reviewed your biometrics"
  • 10/17/2019: USCIS online estimate is March 2020
  • 01/01/2020: Interview scheduled for Feb. 5, 2020
  • 02/05/2020: Interview expected in Boston
  • 02/04/2020: Received interview de-scheduled [ugh!]
  • 02/11/2020: Interview scheduled for March 10, 2020
  • 03/10/2020: Interview passed. N-400 Approved.
  • 03/11/2020: USCIS status online says naturalization ceremony scheduled for 04/23/2020 [cancelled  because of COVID-19]
  • 06/05/2020: USCIS status online says naturalization ceremony scheduled for 06/23/2020. 
  • 06/23/2020: Naturalization oath ceremony anticipated.

 

I-751/ROC Journey

  • 05/09/2018: ROC window opened
  • 07/19/2018: ROC package sent to VSC
  • 07/20/2018: NOA1 sent extending Green Card by 18 months (So, Feb. 2020)
  • 07/25/2018: NOA1 received by me
  • 07/30/2018: USCIS online case status - recognizes case no. but has no update
  • 08/11/2018: Biometrics appointment letter received dated 08/03/2018
  • 08/22/2018: Biometrics appointment completed
  • 08/23/2018: Fingerprint review completed (according to USCIS online case status)
  • 09/04/2019: Card in production
  • 09/09/2019: Card mailed
  • 09/10/2019: Card picked up by USPS
  • 09/12/2019: Card received in my mailbox [valid until 09/2029]

 

J-1 to AOS JOURNEY

  • 12/2014: Married USC spouse 
  • J1 waiver procedures begun in 9/2014. That was completed in 12/2015.
  • 01/19/2016: Mailed AOS package through attorney (Day 0)
  • 01/20/2016: Received by NBC acc. to receipt notices (Day 1)
  • 01/27/2016: Fingerprint fee received (Day 7)
  • 01/29/2016: Soft touch by USCIS
  • 02/01/2016: Received NOA1 by mail for I-485, I-130, I-765, I-131 (Day 12)
  • 02/12/2016: Biometrics letter received for 02/24 (Day 23)
  • 02/18/2016: USCIS I-612 approval notice received in the mail [J-1 visa's 212(e) waiver] 
  • 02/24/2016: Biometrics completed at Boston ASC (Day 34)
  • 03/09/2016: Text & email update that RFIE has been mailed for I-485 (Day 48) 
  • 03/14/2016: Hardcopy of RFIE received (Day 53)
  • 03/23/2016: RFIE response delivered to USCIS by Fedex (Day 62)
  • 03/24/2016: Text update that USCIS received RFIE response (Day 63)
  • 03/25/2016: Placed EAD expedite request by calling USCIS due to job offer (Day 64)
  • 03/28/2016: Requested Congressman's office to follow-up (Day 67)
  • 03/29/2016: USCIS emailed requesting fax of job offer letter; Congressman also forwarded offer letter (Day 68)
  • 03/31/2016: Email and text notification that I-765 'card being produced', then 'case was approved' (Day 71)
  • 03/31/2016: Email and text notification that I-131 'case was approved' (Day 71)
  • 04/04/2016: Text notification for I-765 that 'card was mailed' (Day 75)
  • 04/05/2016: Notice of Approval of EAD/AP received in the mail (Day 76)
  • 04/07/2016: EAD/AP card received (Day 77) 
  • 07/05/2016: Interview notice received for 08/09 in Boston USCIS (Day 166)
  • 08/09/2016: Interview. Approved on the spot (Day 201)
  • 08/11/2016: Online update that card was mailed (Day 203)
  • 08/15/2016: Approval notices of I-485 and I-130 received in the mail. Hours later, green card also received in the mail. (Day 207) 
  • 08/25/2016: Applied for new SSN card without DHS restrictions
