I551 stamp without infopass

Has anyone tried it?

Ill be trying it this week since getting an infopass seems harder than getting citizenship in some cities. 

 

I will report back if Im able to convince someone with my upcoming travel that cant even wait the infopass two week minimum scheduling time.

Also, anyone figured out what the critirias are for a 6 months vs 1 year stamp?

 

Did anyone get a 1 year stamp with a passport expiring soon?

If you have proof of impending travel, you could always try to do an Infopass walk-in for the stamp.

Some offices are busier than others.  In my case it was super easy to get an infopass appt for the I-551 stamp.  Others complain it takes forever.  I would suggest refreshing your browser frequently when trying; try using different browsers; check back during different times of the day, especially just after midnight (I have read many appts are released after midnight); and very early morning (630 -730 am).  Lastly, if you can, try to visit another office that is located in a nearby city, that is if its not too much of a drive.

I was about to update. 

 

I went and it worked. It wasnt super busy. Security didnt ask for any appt proof for some reason, which is usually the main hurdle when doing an early walkin, but by the time I asked if I should remove my shoes, he answered yes, I dropped all my papers in the bin and he didnt care to look or ask as I was taking off my shoes. 

 

At the Information window, she asked what my appt was for and I casually said "oh im just here for the extention stamp" she asked for green card and extention letter, printed a number and asked me to take a seat. 

 

Got called, he checked my passport, saw that it was expiring in 7 months and said the extention will reflect that date. I told him I brought passport photos if we can do an I-94, he said sure and made me one with a 1 year extention. 

 

When he first looked at my extention letter, he did say I wont need a year, Ill be getting my CG soon. I explained that I did apply for citizenship and he said "yup, its legal to do so, but it messes things up, you might need the wholw year now"
