F1/CPT/EAD question

Hello VJ!

I have a question and maybe you can help me find an answer :)

I am a current F1 grad student with a pending AOS. I'm currently working on campus and also off campus through a CPT authorization.

For what I have read, to I know that the question of whether I maintain my F1 status after having filed for AOS is a very thorny subject, and people have a number of reasons to decide for one or another standing about this. But for the sake of this question let us assume I am still on F1 status and that I will keep it unless I take any action that violates the F1 requirements. (I haven't quit school or reduced my course load after filing. It's more like the opposite 😫 😁)

I will be graduating in May and since by then my CPT will be finished, I won't be able to legally work anymore. I know that since I have a pending AOS I can file for an EAD and have been thinking seriously about it. But my question is: Would applying for that EAD definitely get me out of F1 status? Or after applying for and receiving the EAD I will still keep my status until I use it to accept employment for the first time?

For me it is important to keep the F1 status the longer I can, just in case hehe, and also because I intend to keep studying in a different program after I graduate from my current school.

Anyway, I hope this make sense and you can help me figuring out this matter.

Thanks! :)

I'm currently working with my EAD from STEM OPT extension and my  company lawyer allowed me to continue working with it despite the fact that I filed AOS 2 months ago .

The lawyer said I will still keep my status until I use the EAD to accept employment or AP to travel.

Thanks so much for your reply!

I guess then that even if I apply for the EAD I will remain in F status until I use the permit to accept employment for the first time. Tbh I hop I will get the GC before then, but I would like to have the EAD on this side just for the case that the AOS process takes a longer time. Which might easily happen haha.

Thanks again and have a great day! :)
