I am a 21 year old American and I still live at home with my mom and brother. I want to bring my fiance here from México. My question is what would my household size be? If I am the one going to sponsor my fiance and only her, would that make our household size TWO (2) or do I have to count my mom and brother as part of the household, thus making me required to be at the poverty guideline of a total household number of FOUR (4)?

I hope that makes sense...

If you're not putting your mother and brother as a dependent on your taxes(which I don't think you do) , you will count only yourself and your fiancé. So it would be 2.

my fiancé is in the same situation: living with the family in a household of 4, but they're not his dependent nor did he ever filed and sponsored any other immigrant. So it will be only him and me.

So it doesn't matter that I still live at home, just as long as I'm independent on my taxes?(because I am)

Thanks for the reply!

Exactly :)

Oh hey btw,

The amounts listed on the poverty guidelines, would you happen to know if that is the amount before or after taxes?

For example, I live in Hawaii and the poverty guideline for a household size of 2 is $23,337.

Before. It is the gross amount.
