Two of my friends went to the citizenship interview today in LA. They are a couple. The wife only took 12 minuets to pass the interview.

However the husband was grilled during the interview. First, the IO asked about how he got the green card. Then the IO also asked about what kind of visa he used to enter the US. The husband passed civic question. Then the IO asked every question on the N400. Not only the yes or no. The IO needed my friend to explain the meaning of the question or word. And it's not over. The IO took a look of the tax return. This couple has two infants. And only the husband works. They applied fee waiver because of the low income. They had tax return of 8000 dollars last year because of the income and the two babies. The IO also asked him how they can get the tax return and applied with fee waiver. My friend got the N652. He thought he need the second interview. Because the IO said:"Don't forget to bring copies of tax return next time". Post his experience here. Hope every one can pay more attention to the interview. Should my friend hire a lawyer with him in the next interview? If he got denied in the next interview, what will happen and what he can do? Thanks a lot.

His timeline:

N400 sent in April.

Finger print done 1st May.

"In Line" on 8th May.

interview letter received on the end of Oct

$8K return is a lot

how much is as "low income" ? how does low- income family like them  manage having so many kids?

 H1b ---> EB-1A (I-140) ---> I-485 AOS(Green Card) ---> 5 years --->  US Citizenship N400 application

  • Day 011/16/2017, e-filing N400

I know 8k is a lot.However it depends on the tax and the number of family members. And 2 kids are not "SO MANY". I appreciate your reply, but it really doesn't help.

I don't think so. And the IO mark the N652 as:

You pass the English and history test.

USCIS will send you written decision
