Leaving US to visit family while ROC pending - divorce

I'm getting divorced from my US Citizen spouse - hopefully will get the divorce decree soon and be done with this nightmare. I currently hold a GC valid for 2 years which will expire in July 2018. I have not yet filed for the ROC with divorce waiver because I still don't have the divorce decree.

I would like to pay a visit to my family in my home country after I file for the ROC (while it's still pending). Is this possible without getting in trouble? I know I have the right to stay in the US while my case is being reviewed, which can take a year, but I'd like to go visit the family for a couple of weeks, can I leave in the meantime?

Yes, you can travel, all you need valid is documentation to reenter. A valid green card, expired green card+extension letter, or a passport stamp.

Thank you, but in this case I still have my valid green card. I don't have an expired one. Will I receive an extension letter while the ROC is still pending?

Yes, you will receive an extension letter. You don't need the letter while your green card is still valid.
