I've really just about had it today!! (RANT WARNING)

We made an INFOPASS appt last week to go to our local office in Omaha today to find out about getting my AP (applied in Dec, not got it, urgent now). Well 2 inches of snow fell overnight, all the roads were clear, no ice, no problems. Got to the local office and NONE of the Immigration officers were there today!!! The security guys were there and some official guy who said that because of the weather the office was closed today! Well for god's sake, everyone else had to go to work today, why in the hell didn't the Dept. of Homeland Security. They told me to come back tomorrow without an appointment, so I asked if they can guarantee that the Immigration Officers will be there on Tuesday, they said no they couldnt, and in fact since more snow is forecast tonight, they thought it not likely. I cant go on Wednesday as they 'do paperwork' then and dont see people. So looks like Thursday will be the earliest and we're running out of time now.

I'm just getting so sick of this. How do they get away with this, really?! As I said everyone else had to show up for work today, why dont USCIS employees?! And the roads were CLEAR!! I did just about manage to hold my temper though as the official looking person I spoke to might be an adjudicator and I didnt want to mess things up for the interview just in case he is.

Second major issue of the day I need to get my passport changed and no-one will countersign it as the instructions on the form say that they have to have known you for 2 years. Well, I called the British Embassy in Washington at $2.10 per minute and they said that since I've not been here for 2 years then they waive that requirement, it just has to be a professional person known to you. However, since the form says 2 years no-one here will sign it. It is a simple thing, all they have to do is look at my pictures, look at me sitting in front of them and sign a box that says that the pictures are a 'true representation of the applicant,' aka Me. Not like I'm asking them to sign their life away or something. So it looks like I cant get my passport changed either.

Well, I guess that's it. Hope there's some good TV on tonight.

Thanks for reading

Kate

Kate that sucks :(

Had a similar thing in the UK - form needed witnessing - all that needed witnessing was the signature - no prior knowledge of the signatory was required and it said so; just needed to say they'd seen it signed..no-one I spoke to, bank, building society etc would sign it because 'they didnt know me'

#######

People are annoying _ I also got mad and said rather sarkily that maybe being illterate was part of their job description being as the form stated 'no ID of signatory is required for this form'

Grr

May they all grow boils on their sitting down parts down there in Omaha!

Kate,

I would say just be patient, they wont give you an AP anyway, unless you have an urgent medical reason I mean.

I am in Lincoln too, and it took almost exactly 100 or 101 days to get ours, I was going NUTS! I guess we just live in slow land. I made an infopass appointment and they refused to do anything about, and not only that, we got an attitude about it as well. Every other time they have been real nice, and everything has went well, we got an interrim EAD, etc, but the AP...nope, no way.

This was just in December...so just to let you know our experience. I bet you will get your on the exact same timeline as well.

Hugs

Jill and Lake

PS and the roads ARE now horrible in reality, the state offices here are closed, so I bet you will encounter same situation again if you try O tomorrow. :( Sorry to be bearer of bad news.

kate ...

sorry you had such a rough day!!

one thought i had to the USCIS closing ... maybe due to the weather, 'non-essential' employees were not required to report to work. i know as a state gov't employee ... sometimes the governor allows non-essentials to go home early or not report in due to inclement weather. as a nurse, i'm considered 'essential' (which i then get double time), so i have to come in to work (or stay over) ... as do cops, DOT workers, etc.

better luck tomr!!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I would understand it better if it were true that 'non-essential' workers were not required to report to work, but everyone else I know had to work today and are expected to show up tomorrow too. These are bank clerks, librarians, insurance underwriters, waiters, bar staff etc, all expected at work and they're certainly not considered to be 'essential workers.' Ah well, I don't hold much hope for tomorrow either.

Our need to travel is urgent, not medical, but legal. We're required to give evidence for the prosecution at a trial in England, the CPS are paying for our flights, hotel and expenses, so they must really want our evidence!! If we do not attend we will be subpoenaed to do so (we have letters to the point), so I hope they would issue us an Emergency AP.

Thank you for the best wishes

Kate
