My application was recently sent and accepted a week ago. For the interview location, we selected Seoul South Korea because she moved from China to South Korea 2 years ago and has since lived there. She is NOT a South Korean citizen as she hasnt lived there long enough to apply.

While I realize that the USCIS says that the request is no guarantee of where the actual interview will happen, what have others experienced in this area? Because she is still a chinese citizen, would it be likely that they could tell her to go to China for the interview? I am hoping not because she just got back from a trip near Hong Kong so she could get a translated copy of her divorce records, passport photos, and a translated copy of the police records for the possible interview later. With the current situation with North Korea, it makes me wonder if they will change the location.

Provided she is legally present in South Korea (not as a tourist), then the interview will be held there. You don't have to be a citizen of the country where you interview, but you do have to be living there legally.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

If she's a current legal resident there, it won't be an issue to have an interview in South Korea instead of China. Good luck to you guys! :)

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Ok thanks. Thats what I thought too. They shouldnt need to make someone go to their original homeland just to interview. Now we just have to hope that the North Korea issue is resolved in the coming months.
