lol, she didn't know that? what a n00b.. why do you think NC has those numbers for Hispanic dwi's? cuz that's all they pull.. hispanic drivers..

Give us all a break with the righteous indignation Pedroh. The South in 2007 pales in comparison to the ####### that goes down daily in Mexico. Ain't nobody fleeing the American South for Mexico. I can't imagine why? Clue me in! ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

Plenty of Americans retire in Mexico.

Of course, they do so in little Americanized cocoons. Kinda the same way most Northerners who move to the South end up living around other transplants. And they know exactly where not to go to avoid "the natives".

Makes me want to move to the South

Everybody wants to move to the South.

The 10 fastest-growing counties in the United States are:

1.) Maricopa County, Arizona (Phoenix)

2.) Harris County, Texas (Houston)

3.) Riverside County, California (LA)

4.) Clark County, Nevada (Vegas)

5.) Tarrant County, Texas (Fort Worth)

6.) Bexar County, Texas (San Antonio)

7.) Collin County, Texas (Dallas)

8.) Dallas County, Texas (Dallas)

9.) Wake County, North Carolina (Raleigh)

10.) San Bernadino, California (LA)

http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/real_e...owing_counties/

Not a SINGLE ONE north of the Mason-Dixon line, and they're all in the South, Southwest, or southern California.

10 Hot cities for job growth:

Las Vegas

Orlando

Riverside, CA

Austin

Phoenix

Jacksonville, FL

Tampa

Dallas

Charlotte

Atlanta

http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/02/technology...ities/index.htm

Again, notice something? All in the south, southwest, or SoCal.

From Forbes magazine, 25 best US cities for jobs:

1. Raleigh-Cary, NC

2. Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, AZ

3. Jacksonville, FL

4. Orlando-Kissimmee, FL

5. Washington, DC

6. Salt Lake City, UT

7. Honolulu, HI (tie)

7. Las Vegas, NV (tie)

9. Ft Lauderdale-Pompano-Deerfield Beach, FL

10. Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News, VA

11. Bethesda-Gaithersburg, MD

12. Sarasoda-Bradenton-Venice, FL

13. Tampa-St Petersburg, FL

23. Austin, TX

25. Albuquerque, NM (tie)

25. Sacramento, CA (tie)

http://www.forbes.com/home/2007/02/15/best...bs_slide_2.html

Again, this list is dominated by southern, southwestern, and California cities.

The numbers speak for themselves. The growth is down South, and that's where the smart people are heading. I just wish they weren't ALL heading for Texas; all northerners do once they get there after taking a job and buying a house is ###### about how "backwards" we are. I'm like...y'know, you can always try your luck in Detroit or Cleveland.

Hot Job Prospects In Top Metro Areas

Christina Settimi 04.05.07, 6:00 PM ET

Every year, when we put out our rankings of the Best Places for Business and Careers, the top spots tend to be fast-growing, small and mid-size metros, typically in the South and West (never in California though--too expensive).

So what about the big guys? Is it really that bad in the New Yorks and Los Angeleses?

Yes and no. Many metros are prohibitively expensive when it comes to labor, energy, taxes and office space costs, making them tough cities to start a new business. But those high labor costs mean high salaries for people willing to brave high living costs--a full 42% above the national average in a place like San Francisco. And while employment growth has been mediocre in many big metros, there are job categories that are surging in these cities.

With this in mind, we decided to put our finger on the pulse of salaries in the 10 largest U.S. metropolitan areas with the help of PayScale, an online compensation comparison tool. PayScale launched in 2000, and it provides real-time salary information from its 5.5 million users.

We set out to find what some popular jobs paid in the nation’s biggest cities. PayScale isolated the job titles that employed more than 0.3% of the population in each of the top 10 metropolitan areas--knocking out well-compensated anomalies like symphony composers and NFL quarterbacks. We also ignored perennial fat cats--doctors, lawyers and senior executives. We then pulled three jobs for each city near the top of the pay scale, including salary, bonus, profit sharing and commission.

"Our data shows that you can definitely make a good living in a major metropolitan area," said Alfred Lee, director of quantitative analysis at PayScale. "While a big city may not be the best place for everyone, in many cases it is the best place to be well-paid for many common jobs."

Take software engineers, which have been in high demand since the tech boom of the 1990s and remain among the fastest-growing professions in the U.S. Their numbers are expected to swell 48% from 460,000 in 2004 to 682,000 in 2014 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (see "Fastest-Growing Jobs"). It’s a hot job in many big markets. The best pay for software engineers is in New York, where the typical senior software engineer with seven years of experience makes $111,200. Close behind is San Francisco, where someone in the same position makes $110,400. In Philadelphia, engineers come a little cheaper. The going rate is $87,100.

Unemployment rates in big metros are still low, under 5% almost across the board. If you dig a little deeper though, some cracks begin to appear in the employment picture in our urban centers. Job growth has been negative over the past five years in each of the three biggest metro areas, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Job growth has been equally bleak in Philadelphia and the San Francisco Bay Area.

But demand for many of the highest-paying jobs is soaring. That demand is feeding competitive salaries according to Jennifer Sullivan, spokesperson for CareerBuilder.com. Sullivan says that technology job opportunities in the big metro markets are rising faster than other parts of the country. CareerBuilder.com has seen a 25% increase in technology job postings in big markets during the past year. New York might have trouble creating new jobs, but for those lucky enough to already have a job, household incomes are up 4% annually since 2001 compared to 2.6% for the U.S.

I'm laughing at your inclusion of California and Arizona in an argument about "The South"! The Mason-Dixon line means ###### all when you get that far west.

BTW - I used to live in Riverside County. People aren't moving there because its great, its actually shite, they're moving there because its closest place to LA that is still affordable.

Well, you shouldn't laugh. If you read my post again you will note that I said that the best places to go are in the South, the Southwest, and southern California.

I know Riverside is a #######; I've been to LA a couple of times and I don't see how anyone lives there. Riverside is even worse than LA!

There's a world of difference between the Deep South and the Southwest, and most people are moving there for the weather, not the culture (why all the Northerners cluster together.)

Now that's sure enough the truth! I've lived in the Deep South all my life and I *still* say it's one of the most backward places to live in the USA.

Rednecks.... sheesh

Almost as bad as all those drunk drivers in NC.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
