Hi - I have a question that I couldn't seem to find a clear answer to yet, and this forum has been a lifesaver (and stress-saver) so far, so . . . my parents are willing to co-sponsor my fiance for the affidavit of support, but are retired and have no income. They have plenty of assets in savings, 401k, stocks, etc - much more than necessary to fulfill the requirements of 5X income deficit. My question is this: even though they technically have the assets to cover the requirement, would the consulate reject our application because there is no income? Should we find someone who has income, or is the cash sufficient? Thanks!

Whichever is used, ensure that the person alone meets the poverty guidelines for their household size.   For example, your parents would need to meet the limit for a household size of 3 plus any dependants they have.   They must meet this amount alone (not in addition to your salary).

I would always suggest going with a sponsor that has a steady stream of income and not just assets.

My parents definitely meet the requirement for a household of size 3 (and have no dependents) and in their assets they exceed it (by several hundred thousand dollars in savings...). You recommend someone with a steady income, but is it necessary? Is it a huge risk to go with my parents' assets?

I can't give you a risk factor.   As long as it meets the income requirements, you should be okay but I would assume using assets is more risky (given that they require so much times the amount of the poverty level).  You'll also want to make sure your embassy allows K1's to have co-sponsors (some do not).
