For I-130 for Spouse, USCIS will take 3-9 months to review the applications and then send it to NVC for Visa processing.

NVC will take 60-120 days to start processing applications and would ask for Affidavit of Support.  This is based on my friend's experience who sponsored his wife from India.  Altogether, spouse cases are finished within 12-18 months.

If you can monitor your husband's case and respond to USCIS and NVC from overseas, I don't see a problem but consult others as well. If you are Green card holder, I would suggest consult a lawyer before leaving US.
