Filing n400 and taxes please help

hello,

on the N400 form for the question where it says " have you ever not filed a federal or state tax since you became a permanent resident" - I did not file 2008-2010 since I was a dependent under my parents in 2008. 2009/2010 I was no longer a dependent due to age but I was still living with them and I worked very little and made way below the requirement to file taxes according to the IRS, do I need to check "yes" and attach an explanation saying that I did not make enough money or what should I do? I filed taxes starting 2011. Is there a template I could use?

I already have a letter that I got from the IRS web site stating that I do not owe any back taxes, should I attach that to my explanation or simply bring it to my interview in case they ask?

question 2: my green card expires in May, what would happen if for some reason my paperwork took longer than expected to process and my green card expired before I got my citizenship? would that create a problem going for my interview? would I have to renew my green card prior to my interview?

thank you!

Adrian

*Edit* what I meant to ask is do I attach my explanation as to why i have not filed taxes for myself to my application or do I just bring it with me to the interview? i believe I read that I have to attach it but I just wanted to confirm 100%

I can't speak for your second question about what to do if you're still being processed after your GC expires - however your first question, ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS:

Quote
  1. Item Numbers 1. - 50. Answer each question by selecting “Yes” or “No,” where applicable. If any part of a question applies to you or has ever applied to you, you must answer “Yes.” If you answer “Yes” to any of the questions in Item Numbers 1. - 44. in this part, include a typed or printed explanation on a separate sheet of paper.
  2. Your answers, whether “Yes” or “No,” will not automatically cause your application to be denied.

So I would interpret this as a YES for question 7, in part 12, I would tick YES and then include a statement explaining WHY you didn't file for those first years, and then include a copy of the statement the IRS gave you.

Hmm it doesn't say to include any statements with the explanation but you're right it might be a good idea to include it
