Hi,

I sent my packet to chicago lockbox on march 25, 2017 and i still havent recieved my noa1. I sent my payment through a money order and found out few days ago that it was cashed on march 31, 2017 but still no reciept. My first question is what could have caused the delay? And second question is when they recieve your payment does that mean your application was complete and there were no errors?

Hello. Unfortunately, NOA1s for the I-130 are taking a while now. I would give it another week or so and then suggest calling USCIS to see if they sent you the NOA1 but you just never got it. Do you know if they cashed your check / money order?

No. All it means is they accepted your petition and passed some very basic checks (right fee, right forms, signatures, etc.). It will be a few months before they actually review the content of the I-130 packet.

Yes they did cash the money order on march 31 and its been almost a month after that. I do understand and read few threads about noa2 taking upto 5 months but noa1 has been average of 10 days for most people?

I've been seeing some NOA1s taking 30 days actually. But yeah, that is a little unusual that they cashed your payment last month as well. You should call USCIS and find out if they sent your NOA1 and to what address. Get the receipt number so you can track the status online, too.

I found out my money order was cashed through the company i purchased from and i have already contacted uscis and heard the similar comment upto 30 days. In my understanding 30 days being the most and i have also crossed that deadline considering the date i sent the packet . I guess i will try once again when its probably a week over 30 days. Thanks tho

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't received anything, but let me tell you that they are taking forever at USCIS, my petition stayed at their office for 30 days after it was approved before they sent it to NVC.  also they took 4 months to approve my petition so all I can tell you is to get ready to sit and wait like the rest of us.  This site def helps a lot
