Verizon is charging me .35 up and .15 back thats 50 cents for a one round conversation. My 420 dollar phone bill is getting old.

T-Mobile.

15 cents outbound overseas.

Nearly free inbound, depending on your monthly text allotment. For example, 400 texts with T-Mobile is $4.95 per month.

Make the change to T-Mobile.

I pay five cents a text to send to her. I use another phone with a sim card from the Philippines (Smart Buddy) which receives text for free, and costs her one peso to send. The extra phone paid for itself in a week. hahaa

We use Spidertext. My hunny has 300 texts a month from alltel, which can be used for internatnional, so he just texts my phone directly. Then he got us Spidertext credits. It's a text forwarding service, and it works GREAT! I text to a local number so it costs me a peso, and it costs us 5cents in credits for him to receive it. sure a heck beats the 15 pesos a text i was paying before.

This idea looks great. Now I just have to get a qwerty phone to type the msgs in.

You can send TXT messages using Skype, and to the Phillipines it costs about 6 cents. I believe you link your cell phone to your Skype account so it looks like the TXTs are coming from your own mobile as well.

Yahoo is great and with the phone option you can now talk just like you were on the phone. I do it all the time with my friend in CDO. Of course both computers need a microphone and the Yahoo messenger software.

I'd recommend Chikka to send text from the US as well. Can't beat free. Only downside is you have to be online.

However, if you're getting charged between a dime and quarter to SMS why not just call instead? I use mobilecaller.com to call my wife's cell (also works for land line but it's more expensive) and it's $.10 / min. My wife calls my land line (which I have simultaneous ring through to me cell) with a phone card and IIRC she said it's 1.5p / minute.

Skype is great for voice/video chat as well. I like it over Yahoo IM because you can resize the window you're viewing.

Well.......

I wouldnt mind buying a phone. I just dont want to type into those tiny little five letters per number key phones. It takes five minutes to type "HI".

I need a pda phone with a qwerty keypad and those phones are 35,000 peso's or more.

Ideas?

www.chikka.com and download the chikka messenger to your computer, you can send text messages to her phone for FREE and it will only cost her 2.50 pesos to reply and it's more easy to send text messages by typing on your keyboard! Using a Philippines simcard (smart or globe) everytime you will reply to her a 15.00 pesos will be deducted to your load...so try CHIKKA. Use skype for vedio chat....it's better than yahoo!
