Hello all, Reviving this thread with a follow up question!

First of all, thank you all for useful information above.

My wife entered the US just a a few days past 2 years of marriage so her status is IR1 and was given a permanent green card for 10 years. However upon entry the boarder control office gave her a small paper advising her to apply for the removal of condition with instructions to file i-751 three months before the 2 year mark from the date of entry. So following these instructions we filed an i-751 about 3 weeks ago. We have not heard back and the check never got cashed so I got worried and started to do some research and found this thread and realized that maybe we should have not even filed the i-751. I am thinking that the i-751 might get rejected after all. In any case did we do the right thing? or should we have just ignored what the boarder control officer said?!

Also if the i751 gets rejected, should we just leave it at that?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for splitting this. I am still learning forms etiquette!
