Finally we are getting reasonably priced flights into and out of Seattle. Norwegian Air are going to start flying non-stop between Seattle and Gatwick in September. Fares from here starting at $199 each way and from the U.K. £199 each way.

It always angered me that BA would fly someone from London to Sydney for less than they would fly someone to Seattle. But I did work for "the opposition" in the U.K. Norwegian were always my choice when I couldn't get an employee ticket to visit my hubby. They're not bad for the price.

I just went to their website to check this out since it seemed like pretty amazing news. After further investigating, I got to the baggage part, and it seems like they might get you with the baggage, could not tell 100%, but thats how it seemed to me. If If I am wrong, please let me know =) And I saw no flights for $199. They seemed to START at $279.00 starting September 17th. That $279 price does not even include any checked bags =( Also, I have really been watching prices and looking in to all options and what I have noticed, is that in some cases, it seems to be cheaper to fly to LAX and then get a separate itinerary from there to Seattle with Alaska since they generally have flights from LAX to Seattle for around $79. For some reason it just looks like its cheaper to fly to LA.

Norwegian Air are a budget airline, meaning they'll very much take your credit card if you want to add checked luggage and have a meal. Unfortunately both things they don't provide as standard on international flights, which has always kind of boggled my mind. We flew with them back in March of last year, when my husband had booked the tickets, but I hadn't known how many hidden extra fees there were. It's $45 just for a meal, and to book your seats in advance.

We're flying with them again in June as their airfare was so considerably cheaper than anywhere else for the time of year into Gatwick from Oakland, CA. We travel light so it'll only be carry on for us anyway, we arrive super early at the airport so reserving seats is no big deal, and we'll buy snacks at the airport before take off. It all depends on what you see as a good deal. I'd prefer to spend less and have a little inconvenience when the next best flights was nearly $400 difference!

I've flown with them a few times. When I used to visit my husband I did carry-on only and didn't bother with their food or seat assignment (no point when you're traveling alone - every one on the plane is a stranger so I don't care which stranger I end up next to). I paid £280 for my ticket when I emigrated and that included 2 bags and less than a week before Christmas. Their food is the worst I've ever had on any airline.

Totally agree with the food being the worst. We caved and decided to have a sandwich, and it was tasteless and very overpriced. Definitely not making that mistake this time!

I've looked into Norwegian and also WOW (flying to the US east coast), who seemed to have really cheap deals, but alas, once you add baggage etc. the price was almost identical to Virgin, BA, Delta etc :(

Guess it will work well if you have a short trip with just hand luggage, but personally, I'd always rather pay a little more for some degree of comfort and knowing I can take a suitcase, especially if I am on a plane for 7-10 hours :)
