hey all, i've googled thru a bunch of topics already but the name change everyone seems to be asking about is last name of beneficiary with specific regard to the name on the gc. my situation is the exact opposite: i am the usc. i changed my last name to his prior to filing aos so all forms reflect that, but i've always hated my first name and filed to change that too soon after. i just checked the status on our state's case search - my name change has been granted! so after i get the judge's order in the mail, it'll be time for trips to the ss office and mva : )

but... how exactly do notify uscis of my name change? do i have to if i'm the petitioner? has anyone navigated this particular issue before?

many thanks in advance

Hello, my husband (the usc/petitioner) changed his first and middle names during the time my I-130 and I-485 were being processed.

I would say that it is quite important that they know your name change, so that any future correspondence, evidence and ID align with your new legal name despite being the petitioner.

When my husband received his name change court order and it was all finalized, he called USCIS and informed them of the name change. He then (under their instruction) sent the office that was processing our case: a cover letter explaining the name change, including my name, any receipt numbers/ alien numbers from I-130/AOS/Affidavit of support paperwork and photocopies of his old ID and his new name change court order, new drivers licence and SSN.

I believe he also wrote in the cover letter that our marriage certificate remained in his previous name (If this is relevant to your situation).

I would suggest contacting USCIS and explaining the situation and they should tell you something similar or at least what they want from you right now.

After doing this, the next information we got from USCIS always had his new name.

I hope that helped a little.

Glad I could give you some information having had the same situation.

Good luck with that and the rest of the process.

And thanks, we're still waiting for the date but things are progressing.
