Hello everyone,

My wife was issued her IR-1 visa a few weeks ago. We now have until mid August to enter the United States.

We are currently living in South Korea. Our family is trying to plan a family trip before my wife and I head to the United States. Are there any travel restrictions prior to entering the United States under her IR-1 visa?  They are planning to travel to somewhere in South East Asia for a week or so in May and we are planning to head to the United States in June. Are there any issues with traveling prior to entering the United States?

I hope my question isn't too confusing.

Thank you for any assistance.

Derek

Travel as much as you want. Make sure you check your visa for expiration.

you got the perfect visa! Good think about the Ir1 is that she gets a GREENCARD upon entry!! just make sure she doesnt leave the US for 6 months!! she is a legal permanant resident.. make sure you remove conditions before the 2 years of the greencard issuing are up:)

this is one of the reasons i really think the IR1 or CR1 are a MUCH better option then the K1 especially from a country where you are easily able to travel!!!!

enjoy your time:)

So there will be no issues entering the US after our family trip? I was just a bit worried as someone mentioned not to travel before entering the US.

I don't think we will be leaving the country for awhile. What do you mean "make sure you remove conditions before the 2 years of the greencard issuing are up"?

Thank you for all the help,

Derek

ahh nevermind!! CR1 is the 2yr and IR1 is the 10yr - my mistake! its based on how long u were married before u got the GC!

so ur good to go as the Ir1 means u have the permanant 10yr greencard:)

travel all over u wont have a problem! it is reccommended to not spend more then 6 months out of the country.. so u cant get a greencard and live abroad.. u need to LIVE in america - hence the point of permanant residency.. after 3yrs and u must spend a certain amount of time in america u can get citizenship.

so if u live in america and travel frequently, u will be OK! make sure she writes that down somewhere bc u need to know ur travel record for when u apply for citizenship:)

she has until mid august to enter the usa - so make sure she enters the usa by mid august.. after that she can leave but make sure u spend 6 months in the usa the first year.  so yes she can travel before that to other places.. not a problem
