Hi there,

I just got married today and I am planning on changing my name...but I am not sure of how to change my passport to my married name, especially with the K1 visa & I-94 inside the old one (and not to mention the fact that I can't leave until I have AP or the Green Card!!). Has anyone done this? How do you do it? I am Canadian so hopefully it's not to hard...

Hi there,

Congrats on your marriage. As I see it you would have to turn in your old passport with your I94 and visa in it. Which you will need. I wouldn't imagine there is a large rush to obtian a passport in your name. Go to immigration so that they can have your new married name then apply for a SSN after Immigration will have your new last name in the system then you can get a drivers license etc in your last name. If you keep your passport in your old name you will just need to carry your marriage cert. with you until you have another form of ID. Good luck,

You don't need to get a whole new passport. They can add in the married name to the existing one at a Canadian Consulate or through passport Canada.
