Hey folks,

I have a query about the medical assessment and mental illness'. In 2012 I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I have taken medication from 2012 till roughly summer 2016 and have not been on it since. I have never been to see a psychiatrist. I have never been admitted to hospital. I have never attempted any self harm. I have not worked and have been on Benefits since 2013.

since 2013 (UK)

Even though It has been years since Ive had any mental health episodes, do I still need to get a doctors note saying i'm not a danger to myself or others? Does my benefit status come up at all in a medical or consulate interview?

Thanks

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire as part of the medical, this will include your current and prior mental health.

i would get your doctor to just write a brief history of diagnosis and treatment and get them to include a statement to the effect that you are no risk to yourself or others.

Your history of benefit receipt is not assessed, although the CO may ask during interview as they will see from your biographical form that you haven't had employment but as long as your sponsor can meet the financial requirement they have no interest in your finances - they are all to aware that applicants will be entering the US without a regular income in most cases, it's why a financial sponsor is required :)

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey
