I'm wondering why people are reluctant to provide the first 3 digits (after 2007) of their Manila case number. We VJ old-timers built up our excitement by guesstimating our interview schedule based on the interview dates given to those who preceded our case number. It was a lot of fun.

Jeng, you need to receive your SSN first before you can start working based on your K1 visa. As I've said, it is a very complicated process.

First off, your SSN will show the mark "Valid For Work Only with DHS Authorization". Not a lot of employers know that even with this mark on your SSN, you are allowed to work under your K1 visa so you will probably need a lot of convincing by showing the SS rule that tells them that you do not need EAD to work if you are K1 and have SSS.

Secondly, even if you get hired, you can only work until your I-94 expires, that is, 90 days after you arrived. After that, you have to quit your job and wait for either your EAD or GC.

Thanks Cora. Atleast, now I know that it is legal to work within the 90 days as long as i have SSN and the employer knows the rules that no need to have EAD for the first 90 days. Well, i might only be working part-time/short-time in my fiance's friend who owns a restaurant or from this previous employer who is willing to hire me...I guess, they will not insist the EAD, as long as I make them understand that it is needed and I only need to have an SSN. Nevertheless, I will really quit whatever job I am in when my I-94 expires...Again, I do not want to take any risk either...I was just worried that working within the 90 days is not allowed/illegal..Now, I know that it is actually not.

Do I understand it correctly?

How was married life so far? I am getting excited now...time flies fast...after my May 22 interview, i thought that Sept 22 is still far...But now, we are just less than 50 days away from being re-united and start a new life together...Hope it all goes well.

Just got off the phone with Kathlene, she did fine with her interview, but the counsel decided to ignore the paycheck copies from the first of the year and go off of my income on my 2006 return only so they are going to require a co-sponsor.

Once I submit the co-sponsor, they will issue her a visa, so hopefully this will only be a short delay.

Hello Everyone! I got my visa! :dance::dance: Picked it up today and after 5 mins....wallla....I am holding my Visa....so so so happy. Sorry can't tell more...so tired...I just arrived from Manila and still jet lagged and sleepy from days of not sleeping well.

Just want to thank all VJ'ers .... my visa journey was as smooth as silk with all the knowledge and help and advises that only VJ can do! l I am proud to be a part of this community! :thumbs:

More when I am best rested! Am so tired right now ... can't think anymore .... hehehe:P

Just wanna let the VJ community know that I also got my visa today. It was delivered by DHL at lunchtime. Thank God!!!

Did they give your fiance other paper aside from pink slip?

They gave Kathlene a letter explaining what they need, but the counsel told her she did very well at her interview and she would just need to bring the original form from the co-sponsor to the embassy anytime, no appointment needed. After we get a co-sponsor, they should process her visa.

Kathlene is going to either email me or fax the letter to me once she gets home from Manila
