Londoners I 134 question

For all you recent London interviewees - a question. How recently had the USC signed the I 134 that was taken to the interview?

I'm wanting to take mine over when I go see my fiance on Apr 15th, but he likely won't have his interview until June. I didn't know if the fact that the I 134 might be two months 'old' at that point would make a difference - or if they'd even really care.

What was your experience?

I self sponsored and signed it the day before.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Hm, I just went to check, and at that point realised I don't actually have a copy of it - thought I had copies of EVERYTHING, but... not the I-134, it would seem.

Anyway, my interview was March 15th and it, along with all the other financial stuff, dated from around the middle of February - C. got it all together to bring when he came to visit at the end of February.

I agree though, if there's any way of bringing it all with you rather than trusting to couriers or the postal service, do it! And think about it... you should be getting Packet 3 any day now, so if he sends the forms back and the checklist saying he ALREADY has everything in his possession, and is therefore ready for an interview... they can't realistically be expecting any of the evidence to be dated any later than the checklist, can they?!

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

Yeah, I suppose that's true, Feather! I just don't want them to question him on it and have him stuck where they say the visa will be issued pending a more recent affidavit of support.

While we're on the subject of the I 134 - I have another question. I think the 'example form' here is confusing. It lists the guy's address on item #7 (which starts with 'I own real estate valued at') - so clearly he has a home. But there is nothing on the line which asks 'with mortgage(s) or other encumbrance(s) thereon amounting to'.

It seems stupid to me to list the address of the home you own if you're not going to list the mortgage. And again - why list it at all if your income far exceeds what is required?

I would take over the forms with you, if it was months and months old then perhaps but a little bit won't hurt.

Oh, great. I was told or read that the I-134 was good for six months and brought it and supporting documents over with me to the UK way back around New Year's because I'm paranoid about sensitive information getting lost in the mail. Maybe I should send a freshly notarized copy of the I-134.

Oops--just found this from the London Embassy site: Affidavits of support should be of recent date when presented to the consular officer. They are unacceptable if more than one year has elapsed from the date of execution. http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/faffidavit.html So it's a year, not six months. :)

WHEW thanks for digging that up, garyandkris!! I certainly won't worry about having mine dated next week. :)

Also, I was going to of course give my fiance an employer letter with the I 134, and he'll have a year's worth of my bank statements. My bank are about as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike, so I don't want to HAVE to hassle with them for the bank letter. My income is well above the 125% poverty line - anyone see a reason for me to mess with the bank letter? I read somewhere that the bank statements could be used in lieu of the bank letter but its not anywhere on that link that garyandkris provided.

And - anyone have an answer to my question about the example form and listing your house? :D

If you have the employment letter, wage slips, bank statements AND make more the poverty guidlines I'd say you'd be fine! :D

It seems half the stuff we prepare they don't care about

You're probably right, flutter.

I still don't understand the example form listing the house but not listing anything about the mortgage. Or is the assumption that the person in the example owns the house outright?

I don't understand that bit either.

Actually if I'm going to be 100% honest I don't understand most of the forms the first time I read them - Or at all!

LOL Its just that one thing I'm not understanding. I'm quite glad to leave my home off if I don't need to have it on there - but if they need to know that I have a mortgage, then fine -- but then it would only seem logical to actually LIST the mortgage on there.

My ASSumption is that you list it to show that you can liquidate it if need be (perhaps if your income is on the borderline of acceptability) so that your fiance won't become a public charge. But that may be a bad assumption.

If you list your mortgage without listing the property as an asset, they are likely to think you are a nutter. ;) The mortgage thing is a subsection of property owned; it's there to determine what the cash value of the property is after the mortgage is taken into consideration.

I put "not disclosed" under that section because I didn't feel like going through the hassle of getting it assessed and didn't need it as an asset to meet the poverty guidelines. Why makes things more complicated, I figure. :)

Well yes, I do understand that you wouldn't list the mortgage amount and not the house. But the example form does the opposite - lists the house but no mortgage amount or assessment.

I have no idea what to do - I am fine not listing it if its not really going to factor in at all (seeing as my income is enough) - but if it somehow 'helps' to list it, or if I HAVE to list it to be truthful on the form about what I own (and owe) - then I just want to understand what I'm supposed to put. My outstanding mortgage balance and the address, or just the address (as the example form has done)? Or the address and 'not disclosed' for the mortgage? That almost sounds as if you're hiding it for some reason.
