I don't know how I done this but I need help.

LaSt year I arrived springfield IL and right away I applied for driving permit. Few days later I gave driving test and failed. I didn't find job so after a month I moved to nyc. I went to dmv office and asked for information. The lady at the counter told me if you have driving license of IL then all you have to apply for NYC license but since you have driving permit of IL MAKE NEW DRIVING PERMIT of NyC. I said okay and I made new driving permit.( so now I have two states ID) I ENROLLED IN driving school in NYC and i get classess and paid 800 dollar for driving practice but I failed in two attempts. After couple of months circumstances changes and I have to go back to IL. There I practiced driving a lot and after a month I passed driving test and I have IL driving licence and a New York driving permit.I never care but one of my friend said you have to surrender your second ID which makes me worried. Can you please tell how to handle this. Did this act has an effect on my record. I will appreciate your response.

THANK ING IN ANTICIPATION.

Contact the DMV in New York to ask whether they want you to mail your old NY permit back to them, or destroy it. Now that you have the IL licence and are living in IL, you don't have any use for the NY permit and it's now invalid anyway, since you got your drivers licence. If you move to another state, then your IL drivers licence should enable you to just get a new licence in your new state (not another permit). This won't affect your record.
