I upgraded to a Blackberry Pearl with T-mobile, because my other phone was not "compatible" with my fave's (favorite 5 numbers, unlimited minutes).

After the phone arrived, I was attempting to set it up, with Hotmail as the target e-mail. When I called customer care, they said "so sorry" hotmail does not work with Blackberry, because it is not POP3 format.

Well, just for the heck of it, I set it up anyway and sent test messages, which came through to the phone.

So then, I wonder why T-mobile would say it doesn't work? More than one representative corroborated this.

Is there a vulnerability or other issue you may know about?

Are you getting hotmail email through Outlook/Express? or some other method?

Direct from the Hotmail account, set up through the Blackberry.

Lol..well that doesn't explain much..but it is possible if you're using/paying for the Plus or Premium Hotmail/MSN email service (I know, next you're gonna say you don't pay...lol)...

Standard email accounts use a protocal called POP3 to access email. Hotmail, with at leasts its free accounts doesnt. You may be able to pay for it, but outside of outlook/outlook express, you cannot access hotmail accounts.

If hotmail offers a web client for the blackberry pearl you could use that, but I woudnt get your hopes up.

I do not use Outlook Express and the Hotmail is the free version. In the Blackberry e-mail set up menu, it asks for your internet e-mail address and password, that's it. 10 minutes later, I received a message from the Blackberry server, advising that I had successfully established the account. 1 hour after that, hotmail messages started to flow.

That's what I had heard. But alas, I have e-mail arriving on the phone. I cannot explain it. Something may have changed recently?

To my surprise, only a few computer savvy members addressed this issue.

Either way and as a follow up, I received all 17 e-mails today on the device, based on a cross comparison to the online version.

Bottom line, if you own a Blackberry, Free hotmail does sync with the device, irrespective of the contrary offered anywhere else.

I have a work Blackberry, an older model that is Enterprise e-mail connected, this was the reason I even considered a Blackberry in the first place.

Blackberry's are good, and moreover, the Blackberry Pearl rocks!!!

Well that's interesting to know hmmm.. I went and looked at the users guide, etc after your question since I have been considering upgrading - all their material says "no hotmail" as you said. They must not be aware the software can do it.. correction, guess it's OBVIOUS they don't ..lol

It's certainly a handy device...

LS,

You are kicking my Azz with the research links... Being a results oriented type, I obtain results, and then sometimes learn why....In this case, anecdotal evidence is appropriate.

If this were job oriented, I would run it to ground...In either case, I do appreciate it!

Didn't know it was a contest. :)

I found that a while back on a random internet quest. I thought it was neat that you could send an e-mail via SMS by texting to the number 500 (t-mobile only). Just put the e-mail address in the message. You can even have a subject.
