Police Clearance Records

Asking for my fiance in India. What police clearance records are needed? I have read he will need one from the passport center and one from the local police station in the city he lives in. Is this correct, or will the one from the passport center satisfy the USA embassy?

Thank You,

Heidi

I got mine from Police commisionerate first and then sent it to my lawyer. We had to wait for one month just to know that it is not valid.

So, only one from Passport office is valid and they will only ask for that.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Heidi, the info is partially correct.

Once you apply for the clearance at the local passport office, it goes to the local police station of beneficiary's jurisdiction.representative visits the person's house to verify and whatever internal procedure they do to run a background. once cleared. the file goes to the senior superintendent of police's office for his/her signature and finally it comes back to the passport office with the result of findings. sounds pretty technical, is not it ? Guess what ? the process is completely shabby and corrupt. bribing these representatives who comes for verification is considered a ritual to expedite the process. not to scare you or anything. this has been a norm.

Mine I got it from local passport office it took me 1 hr and they hand over the PCC papers (two copies) and stamp in passport immediately. Getting PCC from Police station is not required but safe side.

The only one that matters to NVC and the US embassy is the PCC from the Regional Passport office (RPO). Ignore everything else said here.
