Hi all, my financee is waiting to receive her letter from the consulate in Rio (how long has it taken others? We've been waiting 6 weeks now) and we are preparing everything else in the mean time. What has got us confused are the police certificates. I know she needs to get one from Brazil but she also studied and lived in the US for more than 1 year. I can't imagine that we'd need to provide additional background checks from the US ourselves, right? Only from the country she is from and any other countries other than the US that she had lived in for more than 6 months. I couldn't find this info anywhere to confirm. What is it that we need to provide? Also, a background check/police certificate from Policia Federal is exactly what she needs right?

She won't get any letters from them. The petitioner will receive an email from the consulate and should forward it to the foreign beneficiary.it took 5 weeks from approval to receiving this email for me last year.

She won't need a police certificate from the US. But she will need two different ones from Brazil. One from polícia federal and another from the state she's been living in (and for any other state she lived in for more than 6 months since she's been 16 years old). Those can be obtained online and if an online version isn't obtainable, she'll have to go directly to a polícia federal office or a state office to get it.

I suggest you both take a look at the rio consulates website, they list all the documents needed there for the interview and how to obtain them

Good luck

Thanks for the response.

I meant the time it took between me getting the approval of the I-129f and when my fiancé might receive a letter from the consulate in Rio to set up interview, medical exam etc.

Regarding the police certificates again, should she wait until she hears from the consulate before getting them or do it asap?

Like I said, it took 5 weeks from approval to receiving this email. If you're waiting longer, it's worth a try emailing the consulate in rio to check if they have your case already and asking about your email. There's no letter for beneficiary, just an email to the petitioner that should forward it to the beneficiary.

Since the police certificates are obtained online she can go ahead and try to see if hers are available. If they are, she can go ahead and print them, they're valid for at least 6 months. If somehow they are not, have her research where she needs to go to get them and work on that so she has everything before her interview

How do I ask a question?? Ugh

im on my phone and maybe thats why I can't figure it out

I'm curious about the police certificate requirement.

I was born in Brazil, have lived in the U.S since I was 14 and have never left/lived anywhere else. So I don't need to get a police certificate according to the instructions but I just wanted some peace of mind and tripple check. Emailing the consulate was no help .

and I won't need one from the US either according to the instructions since I was finger printed already here. My waiver was approved and my interview is April 14th

has one in my situation gone through the interview already ?
