Hi everyone,

When I received my Green Card I had left it in my maiden name - my Green Card doesn't expire until July 2017 but I would like to change everything in the USA and renew my Canadian passport with my new married name; Does anyone know in what order that I need to change all of these and if I should just wait?

Thanks!

Hello,

For my name change procedure, I changed my green card first then SSN then passport. Replacing green card is relatively easy as the procedure is now online:

https://www.uscis.gov/i-90

It took me 3 days before I got my biometrics appointment and two months after I got my ID. After getting your green card id, apply for a new SSN card. You have to bring your green card id and show it to them. Then I changed my passport. Also, after changing your SSN, you would be able to change your bank account, credit card name, driver's license etc

Hope this helps and good luck on your name change!

It'll cost you $450 but then you'll have to pay that anyway when you renew.

Are you applying to remove conditions? Is it possible to change your name when you apply for a permanent green card so that you can avoid paying the extra $450?
