Just out of curiosity, has anyone from a part of the Philippines other than the Manila metro area brought a dog to the United States in the past few years? My wife and I would like to bring one of her dogs so she isn't leaving all of them behind, and I generally grasp the procedure (I've flown with mine previously on domestic flights and the paperwork for insurance was actually very similar), but I do have a question...

Does the Bureau of Animal Industry have any offices aside from the one on Visayas Ave in QC to get an animal export permit? Considering she'll already have to fly from Cebu to Manila twice to complete the medical and interview process, having to fly there a third time just for the dog's paperwork seems a little ridiculous.

Some reference material about the process:

Looks like the export permit and a vet cert that they've been vaccinated for rabies and don't have screwworm is basically all that is required.

Additional update... Philippine Airlines says they cannot guarantee specific aircraft will or will not be equipped for checked pets, so they recommend flying a day early to Manila if taking a Manila->US flight from somewhere else in the Phils. However, I suspect that they just mean if by some random chance your flight is rebooked to one of their PAL Express propeller aircraft you can't use that, since most airlines have no issues with checked pets in anything the size of an 737/A320 or larger. And for carry on, I've taken a dog on an ERJ-145, which is positively microscopic.

Bringing a dog into the Philippines is easy and you do self quarantine from talking to Bureau of Animals in Cebu airport

Bringing them into the USA is a lot tougher from what I have tried to find out, does anyone have any specifics about getting them into the USA from Philippines?

I think there is more dynking around bringing a dog from the USA compared to bring from the Philippines.

https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel

Traveling from the USA, you need an international health certificate from an accredited vet, you send that and a permit application to the Philippine embassy/consulate with $$, once you get that all back you send it all to USDA with $$$. And this all needs to be completed within 30 days of traveling.

Traveling from the Philippines: A valid rabies certificate and...

  • The dog must be accompanied by a certificate signed by a full-time salaried veterinary official of the region of origin stating:
    • The dog has been inspected for screwworm within 5 days prior to shipment to the United States.

Visa chase and citizenship.. DONE!

Yup, it absolutely is easier to bring the dog from the Philippines to the USA than to bring a dog from the USA to the Philippines, at least in terms of paperwork. The USA actually requires minimal paperwork (some states may vary and have additional requirements).
