NVC Doc Translations

Hi All,

I've done a search on this question and could only find answers from 2010 and obviously want to make sure the answer is still valid today. Our marriage cert is in Swedish and we need to get a certified translation of it according to the NVC. Can my, wife who is fluent in Swedish and English, provide the certified translation for our supporting doc requirements? The answer that I found from 2010 was that anyone can be the certified translator as long as they include the required statement.

Can anyone still be the translator as long as they provide a statement that they are certified to translate the document?

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and [enter appropriate language] languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled [enter title of document].

From my experience, the process described by jacklynriguelme is correct. The best thing to do is contact the embassy/consulate at which you/your wife would be interviewing and ask them directly. They should have an email address for immigration cases. Also, I think you can get an "international" copy of your marriage certificate that doesn't need to be translated.

From what I know . Nor the petioner neither the beneficiary can translate any documents that are not in English .. you need to hire a sworn translator or a profetional one .. I read somewhere in visa journey some applicants translate their documents in US .. they have no problem with NVC but when it comes to the interview .. they were asked for a local translations... In the country where the applicant is gonna have his interview..
