Question Regarding Police Certificate

Hi Everyone,

I had a question regarding the Police certificate needed for the Interview in Montreal and as well for submission along with the DS 160. I am currently at the end stages of the Packet 3 literally everything is done but I have been waiting on my police certificate now for 3 weeks. What generally takes 3 business days has turned into 10-15 business days [according to the website]. I have called the RCMP and my certificate was processed but they are very behind on mailing it out. The Rep there said it may take even take a few more weeks. Has anyone ever submitted a regular background check - was able to get an interview - and brought the appropriate documentation to the interview? Obviously I don't want there to be any delays for not submitting the proper documentation to USCIS.

Thanks :)

I just brought the police check I got from the local police station, I requested it online and it was ready for pick up about two weeks later. I didn't get anything from the RCMP (I guess it depends on your location, I'm in Toronto). It was sufficient for the interview!

I think the RCMP one is required if your name shows up on the local police name checks.. Here is where it notes that on my packet 3 (I did mine in 2014, so it may have changed. Check the wording on the packet 3 to be sure)

"If a namecheck by a police agency reveals a conviction record, that agency may refer you to the RCMP for a "Certified Criminal Record Check"..."

I am not sure where you are located, but if you did the full RCMP record check, try going to a local police station for a name check instead. If that is what is delayed, I guess you just need to wait?

You don't actually need the papers until your interview, so you could check it off so you can get going with booking your interview. You cannot go to the interview without this though

Packet 3 does say police certificate. We do have a lawyer handling our case so I did foward him the question of whether or not they want a police certificate or a regular police check. It's just frustrating how long it is taking to get this piece of information which was only supposed to take 3 days.
