Affidavit of Support question - Foreign income

From 2013 to 2015, the income reported on my 1040 is very low because it only covered rental income in the US, and most of my income was earned in Hong Kong, and was exempted from paying tax in the US because I already paid tax in Hong Kong. It shows up on my 1040, but it's exempted before I get to line 22, where I'm pulling numbers from.

Has anyone had experience with this before? Has it caused problems? I can get the letter from my current job showing plenty of salary, but I only just started last October.

Thanks for sharing any advice or experiences!
