Hey All,

I had a quick question. I'm a postdoctoral research scientist at an American University. I'm paid by a private cancer research foundation, as such I have never received a W2. Taxes are never withheld from my paycheck, instead I make estimated tax payments myself throughout the year. When I file my taxes, I have to write in myself how much pay I've received. My question is since I have no W2, do you think the following suffices:

1. Pay-stubs from my University for the past 6 months.
2. Tax transcripts for the past 3 years from the IRS.
3. A letter from the cancer research foundation outlining how much stripend I receive.

Do you think this is enough? Not sure what else to do. Do you think the lack of a W2 will hurt me? Should I also attach the 1040 forms?

If you are sending in your transcripts, the W2 and 1099 are not necessary. You only send those if you are sending a copy of your tax returns, so you should be ok.

From the i-864 instructions:

"If you provide a photocopy of your Federal individual income tax returns, you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099 that relates to your returns. Do not include copies of these forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your Federal individual income tax returns rather than a photocopy unless you filed a joint income tax return with your spouse and are qualifying using only your income."
