Dependent Visa for Canadian Citizen

Hi,

I have a friend who is a Canadian citizen and her husband is in the USA on F1 visa (Student Visa). She has already applied for her husband's immigration in the Canada. But while her husband has few years of study left in the USA, they would like to stay together.

- Can she apply for Dependent visa (F2) to come to the USA while their Immigration file is under process in Canada

- And If she come to the USA on Dependent Visa (F2), can her visa get converted to TN Visa once she get a job there

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Only US citizens and permanent residents can sponsor someone. She can not move there.

She is free to visit since she is a Canadian citizen, however. She just can't stay longer than the time she is given when she enters the country, which is up to the discretion of the officer at her POE.

DHL tracking information received: 22-February-2017     DHL tracking number appeared 28 hours after interview, scheduled for delivery the next day
Visa in hand: 23-Feb-2017
US POE (Minneapolis): 26-Feb-2017

Not true.

An F2 visa would allow the spouse of an F1 visa holder to live with them in the US. A quick "Googling" of "how to obtain an F2 visa" will relay all of the steps and requirements. Good luck!

Not true.

No problem. It is still true that USCs and PRs can sponsor immigrant visas. The F2 holder would be a non-resident alien. :)

OP forgot to mention this friend was denied entry to the US according to another thread. His Canadian friend had quit her job and tried to enter on a one-way ticket.

Her F2 may or may not be approved, would depend on the circumstances of the previous denial.
