Hi, does anyone recently passed the interview has K-2? What kind of birth certificate he needs to do notary? Is having the medical certificate of birth notarized good enough? Looks like China has two kinds of birth certificate notaries.

The medical certificate of birth is a REAL birth certificate, and is bilingual (Chinese and English). It will still need to be converted to a notarial certificate prior to submitting to the consulate.

Because the medical certificate of birth was not issued prior to 1996, most people here have only the Notarial Certificate of Birth, which is basically a statement by the notarial official as to the circumstances of birth.

The birth certificate should look like this:

Yes, take it to the Gong Zheng Chu, or 公证处, and have them issue a white book Notarial Certificate.

Thank you for your response. My fiance took this medical certificate of birth of his son to notary office but they still need parents' identity cards, as well as hu kou booklet. His ex-wife hasn't had contact with neither him nor the child for more than 10 years which makes getting the identity card impossible. We thought have this medical certificate of birth is good enough and shouldn't show parents' documents, and only people without medical certificate of birth need to present parents' identity cards and hu kou.

If your wife is asking for a 出生公证书, or chu sheng gong zheng shu, which is generated from the hukou and ID information, she may need to INSTEAD ask for a Notarial Document or Certificate based on the birth certificate. The designation for the Notarial Certificate is Gong Zheng Shu, or 公证书.

They should be able to generate a Notarial Certificate from ANY document, not just those based on the hukou.

If they still refuse, then I would simply turn in the birth certificate as is, along with an explanation that the Notarial Certificate could not be generated, and identify the Gong Zheng Chu, or 公证处 that declined it.

Thanks. They finally will do出生医学证明公证书 and I hope this will be good enough. BTW, I saw your timeline and am sure everything is fine with your son and he is with you already.

The 出生医学证明公证书 or Medical Certificate of Birth Notarial Certificate I EXPECT (but don't know for sure) would be EXACTLY what they want INSTEAD of the Notarial Certificate of Birth, since it's an actual Birth Certificate.

Please let us know how it turns out.
