got 10 year green card do we need a marriage certificate?

After so many years my wife finally got her IR-1 visa and is currently here with me in the US. She has gotten her 10 yrs green card and SSN but I like to know do we need to get remarried in the US? What I mean is do I need to go to city hall and get a US marriage certificate? Are we considered legally married in the US without getting a US marriage certificate? I hear conflicting answers from friends and family and I'd like to know for sure.

hi

of course you are legally married, no need to remarry

if your marriage wasn't valid, your spouse wouldn't have been approved for a GC if not

as long as the marriage is considered valid where you married, the US will recognize it

I would love to hear your friends' rationale that my parents who are married in Trinidad and Tobago are suddenly single when they land in JFK airport.

Or more seriously, how an IR1/CR1 (spousal) AOS application was approved for you with the lack of a bonafide spouse. You have nothing to worry about and no second ceremony to plan. :)
