(Another) biometrics letter received waiting for Oath Ceremony (?!)

Hello,

We just recently went in for an InfoPass appointment because my spouse's Oath Ceremony, after being cancelled in February, had yet to be rescheduled. The person who helped us during the appointment, surprisingly, agreed that this was odd and had been awhile and said she would forward copies of our paperwork to her supervisor.

Since then I've been expecting a notice for Oath Ceremony in the mail, but instead today received an I-797C that reads "To process your application, USCIS must capture your biometrics and have your fingerprints cleared by the FBI, etc. etc."

There's also a message at the bottom that reads " Please disregard this notice if your application has already been granted." I don't think our application was "granted," per se, as the Oath Ceremony had yet to be completed, but I'd like to disregard this.

What is going on? My spouse passed her N-400 interview last July (2015, not 2016), and we were already far outside of application times with the February Oath Ceremony. Is it possible the biometrics expired, or did we literally just get put back to square one?

Any insight/experience is greatly appreciated. Thanks as always.

The validity period of background check and clearance based on the collection of your fingerprints is 15 months.

So if your biometrics were done more than 15 months ago, it is possible that USCIS to request a new one.

That makes sense, and we're approaching 13 months. Any idea as to whether or not this literally sets me at the back of the queue for Oath Ceremonies? It will have been (as mentioned) 13 months since my spouse passed the interview, which is way outside of processing times.

Yes, it seems they have to recapture fingerprints as they are or are soon to be expired. I've read of them expiring in as little as 1 year.

In terms of the Oath ceremonies, I would hope a conscienscious IO would place you at the front of the queue but ther are no guarantees. Good luck!

Will do. I'm hoping after doing biometrics for a second time the Oath Ceremony will be scheduled. I'm hoping they can't request the interview a second time.
