I'd like to see gays in the military

then open your eyes. they are already there.

I'll rephrase. I'd like to see gays OFFICIALLY in the military, acknowledged and recognized. Precise enough?

yet the military isn't an experiment in society. it's there to defend democracy, not practice it. you'll find the rules and the punishment for breaking such stricter than in the civilian world.

So...as you pointed out, gays are already in the military. What would change when we acknowledge them? I'm sure finding out OFFICIALLY who is gay won't come as much of a surprise to the soldiers themselves. :wacko:

oh yeah, i can see it now. the us army gay pride parade, where everyone wears pink uniforms :rolleyes:

Recognizing that gay soldiers die, kill, protect, and serve like straight soldiers, or women, Latino Americans, African Americans, Native Americans, etc., does not imply wearing rainbow stripes or pink uniforms.

Somehow I don't see that happening.

Please answer the question. :devil:

don't hold your breath on it happening ;) they can serve as long as they don't violate the don't ask don't tell policy in place.

Indeed. Nor does it impinge on their work ethic and professionalism.

Oh, it'll happen eventually.

So...they CAN serve as long as they keep their homosexuality under wraps, eh? How magnanimous of you to allow them to serve and defend their country.

you're quite welcome. ;)

btw, given how aids can be transmitted, do you want to be hooked up to a blood donar who has engaged in gay sex? that's another strike against gays in the military ;)

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Actually, heterosexual sex is responsible for the bulk of new HIV transmissions. This isn't 1987, you know. The person who is most likely to contract HIV these days is a heterosexual black female. I suppose we should throw THEM out of the military too, eh? :whistle:

Aren't there fairly rigid medical requirements for serving? I mean, people are denied for being overweight; one of my grandfathers was denied the opportunity to serve in WWII because of a bad hip. I'm pretty sure being HIV positive would show up on any blood test given to a recruit and would be a fair reason to reject his or her application to serve.

Yes and theoretically if the military took in disease-free people only, the gays in the military could have all the gay sex they want, without fear of contracting anything. That could very well turn into a huge recruiting tool for the military, all the guilt-free sex your heart desires! LOL

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
