I am hopefully starting a new job next month. Still waiting on my 10-year GC. My two-year one expired back in September. I have the extension letter, which is good through September, but will I have any issues with background checks and paperwork? I am hoping my card comes in soon, but I filed back in June 2015 with the VSC, so I don't have much hope it'll come in anytime soon. I will be filing my N-400 as soon as I can. It's been hard enough finding a job in my field (aviation technician), so now that I have found one, I don't want to be penalized due to the USCIS taking forever on my i-751!

Your expired green card + extension letter are proof of your status until September. Before your extension letter expires in September, you can get an I-551 stamp on your passport to extend your status for one year. You are authorized to work in the US. If the employer uses e-Verify, your status will be verified.
