Do they run background during each stage for K1 visa?

Hi, first time poster. I just received the Noa2 today. It was 80 days from the day I sent the petition till today when I received NOA2 in the mail. I have been reading a lot about what happens after NOA2. My question is will they still keep running background checks after its past NVC and sent out to the consulate? From reading others experiences it seems the criminal background check is what's holding up the process time in most cases. Will the consulate run its own background checks? Not worried that anything will come up just worried it might take longer than it has to.
