need info on IR-1 filing from Spain

Hi all,

Just a quick question. I am married to a US Citizen and we are both living here in Spain. However, we want to move to the US and we are trying to figure out how to start the paper-work process. I checked the webpage of the US Embassy here in Spain and they do not allow DCF anymore, does this mean that we have to send the I-130 to the Nebraska office? even if the US citizen is not living there right now?

Check out the DCF Forum here for the latest news. Consular filing is not available at the moment due to a recent change in law here in the US, but accomodation will be made for USCs who live abroad.

If you MUST file immediately, file to the Service Center covering the USC's last residence in the US.

If you can hang on a bit longer, there will be some local filing process 'soon".

Hi there,

I am a USC am on the verge of marrying my Spanish citizen. Our plan is to file in Italy (they have jurisdiction over all of southern europe) after we get married, and take the process from there. You can either mail it to the Rome office or file in person. The processing will be done in Italy but your interview will be in Madrid. You must prove that the USC is really living in Spain. I have been empadranado'ed (sorry spanglish) since February, but living here for a year and a half. They advised me to also send my library card which shows I've lived here for 1.5 years, school records, and bank account. The process should take 4-6 months. Once everything gets sent to Madrid, its super fast and easy. I'm not sure how hard it is in Italy...???
