My interview is next week and I was wondering what is appropriate to wear. I am planning on business attire- dress pants, dress shoes, blouse, etc. Please let me know if that sounds OK!

dress for success, lol But be comfortable. people dress attire varied when I did my interview, from suits to raggedy jeans, lol I wore casual pants and a collared shirt. No need to get carried away, just look presentable!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

That will certainly work.

You may want to consider "business-casual" meaning comfy-but-sharp slacks, blouse, shoes (does NOT include jeans, trainers, sandals, ...)

I'm erring on the side of caution and treating it like a business interview so I'll be wearing a nice fitted pant suit and heeled boots.

Do they make you take your shoes off to go through security checks like at the airport? Because my boots take a long time to take off!

No, they dont make you take off your boots cause I was there in the Vancouver consulate for some information. You're funny! hahaha but No, they won't make you take off your boots but you have to go through that beeping thingy/X Ray Machine stuff.

Remember not to bring your purse. Put all the documents in a big paper bag. No cell phones or any electronic devices either! A few people were turned back because they had purses and phones.

Thanks Our Mao! Seriously, these are tight tight knee high boots that are so difficult to take off. I made the mistake of wearing them on a flight once and I had to let 5 people go ahead of me at TSA security while I struggled to take them off. What made it worse is that at YYZ they have additional security going to DCA (DC National) and I had to do it twice! :P

I have 2 plastic accordian folders I'm bringing with me and no purse either. :)

I did business casual. My thinking was that I was confident in what I wore and it would translate to my interview. To me, the people in jeans looked out of place, but that's just my own take on things.

LOLOLOOL can you imagine what the staff at the consulate must think when they see some of those people. I'd LOVE to be a fly on the wall in that office.

Im seriously the kind of casual girl.... Ive always worked in labs and with animals and never had a "business" outfit. All I have is jeans, and no high heels for me. I wear my pair of brown steel toe everyday that I have to go to work....kinda sporty shoes.

I have nice blouses that I wear with my nice jeans but thats about it..... I dont have like really nice clothes cause I would never wear them, I would be too much scared to have them dirty or damaged... Im not exactly a girlie girl.

Advice ?

Isnt just ok to be yourself? Cause its not exactly a job interview, not like you need to show them the way you would look for an everyday job....its just going to be with my fiance.

On another note....I would say it doesnt really matter.

Its not exactly like a Job interview. Its not like they interview 20 people and they have to choose 2 person from it. Its just individual to get the papers. If they deny you its not going to be because of your outfit. For a job you have to make the best impression to stand above the others, but in this case i would just say to be ourselves.

They wont say like ok this girl is gonna be chosen among the 20 others to marry this guy :lol:
